Portward decides what your AI tool may read

It sits between your company's data and tools like Claude. Each request is checked against your rules, the data is sent with your team's definitions, and a record is kept of what was sent.

01The problem

How company data reaches AI today

Each of these works until the day somebody senior notices the number is wrong.

Someone pastes an export into the chat

The file has left your systems, it is out of date by the afternoon, and they explain what revenue means again in every conversation.

Someone connects the database directly

The AI tool can read everything that login can read. It doesn't know who is asking or what the columns mean, and there is no record of what it read.

Everyone waits for a vendor

The warehouse, the BI tool and the AI tool each cover their own part. Your team's questions cross all of them.

02What it does

What Portward does to every request

Connects to your sources

An admin connects a source once. Its credential is encrypted and stored by Portward, and it is never sent to an AI tool.

How sources work

Applies your rules

For each request Portward checks the person, the AI tool they are using, the data, the operation and where the result is going. A row or column that person may not see is left out before anything is sent.

How rules work

Attaches your definitions

The data arrives with what your team agreed: what the number means, how to use it, where it came from and how current it is. A definition your team approved is labelled Governed. One that nobody has reviewed yet is labelled Provisional.

How definitions work

Keeps a record

Every delivery records who asked, what was checked and what was sent, so you can trace an answer back to its source.

How delivery works

Sends corrections to a reviewer

When a source changes or an AI tool spots a mistake, it becomes a proposal. A reviewer approves or rejects it, and an approved correction is saved as a new version.

How review works

03Who uses it

For one analyst or a whole data team

An analyst or engineer

You ask Claude about your own databases and files. Portward keeps the definitions you build, so you stop explaining what each column means, and they carry over when you switch to another AI tool.

A data or finance lead

Your team already asks AI tools about company numbers. You set what each person may see, agree on definitions once, review proposed corrections, and can check where any answer came from.

04Limits

What Portward does not do

Read-only

Portward reads from your sources. It does not write to them, even when the credential would allow it.

No chat of its own

Questions are asked in Claude, Claude Code or Codex. Portward has admin screens for sources, rules and review, and no chat window.

No charts or reports

Portward supplies data and definitions to the AI tool. It does not replace your dashboards.

05Questions

Portward compared with connecting directly

Claude already has connectors. Why add Portward?
A connector gives Claude a way into a system. It doesn't decide which rows this person may see, attach the definition your finance team approved, or record what was sent. Portward is a connector that does those three things.
A read-only database connector is free. What does Portward add?
With a direct connection, Claude can read everything the login can read, and read-only is the only rule. Portward applies rules per person, limits which operations can run, and sends your definitions with the data.
Are rules enforced on the rows, or only described to the AI?
Enforced. Portward applies them before the data is sent, so the AI tool never receives what a rule excludes. If Portward can't enforce a rule on a particular source, it refuses that request.
How long does setup take?
About as long as it takes to connect one source. Create an account, connect it, add Portward to your AI tool and ask a question.
Who keeps the definitions up to date?
The people who own them. When a source changes or an AI tool spots a mistake, Portward sends a proposal to a reviewer. Nothing changes for anyone else until that reviewer approves it.

Connect one source and ask Claude about it

Create an account, connect a PostgreSQL database, and add Portward to your AI tool.
